Water main repair work begins today on Falls Road, traffic diverted during project

The City of Toccoa Water Department will be making repairs to a large water main located on Falls Road. Road work warning signs are in place for the traveling public, city officials advised this morning, July 13. No interruption of water service to businesses or residences is expected, but city officials will advise local news media if that does become necessary.

The work is being undertaken on one of the four large main waterlines that follow Falls Road., and will take place near Toccoa Creek Baptist Church, City Manager Billy Morse told ComnectLocal, adding that all traffic traveling on Falls Road will be detoured to bypass the area of work. The detour will follow the same route as used during work on a water line rupture in early February.

Traffic detour barricades and Toccoa Police Officers will be stationed at both ends of the work site and will route traffic onto the detour around the clock for as long as the work takes Morse said There is currently no estimation of how long the project will take, as the full extent of the repairs needed will not be known until the pipe is uncovered and examined.

The detour route is Old Clarkesville Road. The northbound entrance to Old Clarkesville Road is off of Forest Drive just before the Toccoa Falls College gate. The southbound entrance to the detour is at Maple Ridge Road.
