Tornado that plowed across Stephens County left behind tragedy in Seneca

The early morning EF-1 tornado that toppled trees, tore roofs and porches off homes, shut down power grids and left Stephens County in clean-up mode left behind tragedy in Seneca, killing a 77-year-old security guard at the BorgWarner plant.

There was little left of the guard shack where Jack Harvill, 77, stood duty Sunday night, Harvill lived in Walhalla and was a American Security contract worker at the company's transfer case production plant in Seneca. The EF-1 tornado gathered strength after leaving Eastanollee before touching back down near Westminister, SC; by the time it reached Seneca, it was an EF-3 tornado with winds of up to 160 mph.
