Stephens County Recreation Department officially cancels spring sports season

SCRD offering vouchers or refunds for those who have already paid registration fees.

T-Ball, prep ball and soccer programs offered through the SCRD were put on “hold” status earlier in the year due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts and social distancing requirements.

“We have tried to make the decisions in regards to the spring sports season to allow the youth of our county to participate in T-Ball, Prep ball and Soccer, Matt Ward, Assistant Athletic/Program Coordinator at SCRD, stated in a press release yesterday, April 28. “Our goals are to provide a safe, fun and rewarding environment for our participants and families. With the issues at hand, we believe it is best that all activities be cancelled at this time.”

All sports participants that have paid registration fees will have the option to receive a voucher that can be used towards a future sport at the Recreation Department, or choose to receive a refund check in the amount that was paid at registration.

Contact the recreation office from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at (706) 886-5010 and ask to speak to Ward (extension 2), or to Program Director Cheryl Stinnett (extension 3) to request a refund check. Any person who has not contacted the Recreation Department by May 15 will automatically be issued a voucher good for a future Recreation Department sport.

Refunds and vouchers will be available for pick up at the Stephens County Recreation Department Office, located at the Rose Lane Recreation Complex, 199 Hayley Drive, past the Senior Center and indoor pool, on June 1.

The SCRD will be reviewing options for fall sports over the coming weeks and will decide when signups will begin for NGYFA football, fall soccer and adult sports activities. ConnectLocal will publish this information when it becomes available.
