Stephens County Grand Jury - January Term Indictments

Armed robbery, aggravated assault and false imprisonment among indictments handed down Tuesday by Stephens County Grand Jury



The January Term of the 2020 Stephens County Grand Jury met Monday, Jan. 6, and returned indictments against 17 individuals. Charges ranged from armed robbery and aggravated assault to trafficking in methamphetamines.


Several of the individuals were indicted on multiple offenses, including Dequondre Laron Biggers and Randy Junior Mackey, who were both indicted on one count armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and one count possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.


Arthur Thomas Downs, III, was indicted for one count aggravated assault, one count possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony, eight counts possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count driving under the influence, one count discharge of a gun near highway or street, one count obstruction of an officer, one count driving without a license, one count reckless driving and one count failure to wear a safety belt.


“Downs...on or about the 3rd day of May, 2019, did make an assault upon the person of Erick Jahimah Chavis with a deadly weapon, to wit: a pistol, by firing said pistol at Erick Jahimah Chavis, striking Chavis’ vehicle multiple times...” states the indictment.

The indictment lists the firearms allegedly possessed by Down, including a Kel-Tec PF9 pistol, a North American Arms folding 22LR revolver, a Hi-Point Model 995 9 mm carbine rifle, a Mossberg Mavrick 88 12 gauge shotgun, a Marlin Model 336W 30-30, an Anderson Arms Model AM15 .556 rifle, a Canik 55 TP9 pistol, and a Cobra model CB38 pistol.


Summer Leanne Singleton and Nicholas Michael Cox were each indicted on one count armed robbery and one count aggravated battery for the alleged April 2019 theft of methamphetamine from Gabriel Chase Sullen using a knife, and for allegedly "maliciously causing...bodily harm to Gabriel Chase Sullen by rendering his left thigh and left ear ... useless."


Naeem Edward Smith was indicted on one count cruelty to children in the second degree and two counts simple battery/family violence.


Jerome Mayfield was indicted on one count failure to register as a sex offender. Mayfield was convicted of rape in the Superior Court of Hall County in November 1992. Mayfield allegedly failed to notify the Stephens County Sheriff's Office of his change of residence address as required.


William Gary Williamson was indicted on one count trafficking methamphetamine or amphetamine and one count possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.


Alphonso Junior Dixon was indicted on one count burglary in the second degree.


Davida Brown and Clarence Edward Grimes were indicted on one count each of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Brown was convicted in Stephens County in February 2014 of the felony offense of theft by shoplifting; Grimes was convicted in Stephens County in April 2011 of the felony offense of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.


Shayler Curran Noah was indicted on one count false imprisonment and one count battery/family violence.


Kathryn Victoria Vassar was indicted on one count aggravated assault for an alleged October 2019 knife attack.


Calvin Anthony McCoy was indicted on one count burglary in the second degree, one coun possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, one count criminal damage to property in the second degree, one count obstruction of an officer, and one count possession of drug related objects. The charges stem from an alleged attempted theft at Osaka Express Japanese Cuisine in May 2019.


Marcus Christian Rogers was indicted on one count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count interference with government property, one count reckless driving, one count driving under the influence (drugs), one count hit and run, one count possession of drug related objects, one count obstruction of an officer, one count open container, and one count endangering a child while driving under the influence.


Donald James Hendrix was indicted on one count aggravated stalking in connection with actions in June 2019 in violation of a pretrial release, Hendrix was also indicted on one count aggravated stalking in connection with actions in August 2019 in violation of a pretrial release.


Michael Adam Littleton was indicted on one count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count possession of methamphetamine, one count reckless driving, one count driving while licenses suspended, one count possession of drug related objects, one count speeding and one count disregarding traffic control device.
