Early this morning, Feb. 27, Shirley provided ConnectLocal.News with a press release announcing that he intends to run for re-election, describing his next campaign as “one based on my record and on my vision for our future.
"I have more than 40 years’ experience in law enforcement, 11 as Sheriff of Stephens
County, so that record will be the heart of the campaign," he said in a press release. "I intend to focus on the issues important to our citizens. The campaign, representing the six points of the badge I wear with honor, will focus on integrity, fairness, experience, community, leadership and vision."
Although Shirley's intention to run for re-election has received advance notice, with a November 2019 posting of a "Re-Elect Randy Shirley" image on his Facebook Page, and campaign yard signs being visible throughout the county, this morning's announcement is Shirley's first official statement declaring his intention to qualify as a candidate for the 2020 election.
Qualifying for candidates will begin Monday, March 2, 2020 at 9 a.m. and will cease on Friday, March 6, at 12 noon.
