The rupture of a main water line earlier today, February 5, resulted in the closure of a portion of Falls Road, just north of the entrance to Stephens County Hospital and Toccoa Falls College. While city crews worked to repair the damage today, the work is not complete, and Toccoa Chief of Police Jimmy Mize told ConnectLocal.News that the road would not be open in the morning.
ConnectLocal visited the site this evening at about 9 PM and police officers have blocked the road with patrol cars above and below the road work. According to the officer on site, the best detour route, For both north and southbound traffic, is Old Clarkesville Road. The northbound entrance to Old Clarkesville Road is off of Forest Drive just before the Toccoa Falls College gate. The southbound entrance to the detour is at Maple Ridge Road.
ConnectLocal will speak with city officials in the morning and update the story at that time.
