Jeremy Ray Chastain, 30, has now been charged with the murder of Alecia Grace Stover.
As of this morning, March 11, Chastain’s inmate records with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office show that a charge of murder has been added to the original charge of criminal trespass and a later charge of false statements and writings.
Stover’s body was found outside of a burning home in Alto Saturday, with apparent injuries that “did not appear related to a fire,” according to first responders at the time. Chastain was arrested approximately 10 hours later in Clarkesville on a charge of criminal trespassing.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which was brought in by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the investigation, later determined that Stover died as a result of blunt force injuries to the head, unrelated to the fire.
