Five DUI charges were among the citations issued at five Safety Checkpoints within Toccoa City limits over the holiday weekend.
During the Fourth of July weekend, the Toccoa Police Department, the Stephens County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia State Patrol conducted Safety Checkpoints between the hours of 6 p.m. on July 3 through 2 a.m. on July 4 at the following locations:
S. Pond Street and Collins Road
W. Currahee Street and Zebulon
Big A Road and White Pine
E. Tugalo and Hayes
Hwy. 123 E. at Hart County EMC
The following citations were issued:
Possession of Marijuana (less than 1 oz) - 3
Open Container: 1
Suspended License: 2
Expired License: 2
Equipment Requirements: 2
No License on Person: 1
Expired Tag: 1
"These road check points are a very important tool in maintaining the safety of our citizens," Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize stated. "They are done randomly throughout the year in conjunction with the Governor'sOffice of Highway Safety initiatives."
