FOCUS2020: Stephens County Voter Turnout - General Primary

Fewer Stephens County voters cast a ballot in this year's Primary Election than in the 2016 Primary Election.



VOTER TURNOUT


Stephens County Residents cast 6,531 in the just-completed election. These votes included

  • Ballots cast in March by absentee (mail-in) voting in the Presidential Preference primary, where the only item on the ballot was either the Democratic or Republican candidate(s) for President.

  • Ballots cast in March by in-person early voting in the Presidential Preference primary, where the only item on the ballot was either the Democratic or Republican candidate(s) for President.

  • Ballots cast in May and June by absentee (mail-in/drop off) voting in the Presidential Preference Primary/General Primary Election.

  • Ballots cast in May and June by in-person early voting at the Historic Courthouse in the Presidential Preference Primary/General Primary Election.

  • Ballots cast on June 9 by in-person voting at the Senior Center in the Presidential Preference Primary/General Primary Election.

Of those 6,531 ballots cast:

  • 1,781 were cast in in-person early voting (March and May/June combined)

  • 1,371 were cast in in-person Election Day voting

  • 3,379 were cast via absentee voting (Mail-in/Drop off)

Of those 6,531 ballots cast

  • 5,618 were Republican Ballots

  • 806 were Democratic Ballots

  • 107 were Non-Partisan Ballots

Stephens County’s population, according to Census Bureau 2018 figures, was is 26,035, 22.5% of which is under the age of 18, making the Stephens County population of voting age 20,177.


As of June 1, there are 17,749 registered, active voters in Stephens County, according the Stephens County Registrar’s Office (87.97 percent of the population of voting age).


Voter turnout in the 2018 Presidential Preference Primary/General Primary Election that concluded Tuesday evening, was 36.8 percent.


According to local media reports, the March 2016 Primary Election turnout in Stephens County was 42.52 percent.
