Driver transported by LifeFlight after Saturday's head-on collision on GA 17

Alejandro Baltazar Francisco, 21, of Eastanollee, has been charged with Driving on  Wrong Side of Roadway, Open Container in Passenger Area, DUI , Reckless Driving , and Driving While Unlicensed in connection with the crash.

On Saturday, July 25, Alejandro Baltazar Francisco was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan southbound in the left northbound lane of GA 17, south of North Avenue, when he struck the front of a 1999 Ford DRW Super Duty PIckup that was northbound in the left lane of GA 17, according to Georgia State Patrol reports.

Francisco was life-flighted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious Injuries. His present condition is unknown.

The Ford Pickup was driven by Travis Gerald Lanier, 52, of Evans. He was transported by ambulance to NEGMC with possible injury(s). Passengers in the pickup included Rufus G. Lanier, 76, of Rufus; Leisa Ann Lanier. 43, of Evans; and Linda Blackburn Lanier, 74, of Evans. All three passengers were taken by ambulance to NEGMC with possible or visible injuries.

According to GSP reports, witnesses reported "they observed (Francisco's vehicle) traveling southbound in the left northbound lane" and that his headlights appeared to be operable.  Witnesses also stated that Francisco's vehicle "attempted to stop and was unable to move into the right lane due to traffic in the right lane."

Francisco has been charged with driving on  wrong side of roadway, open container in passenger area, DUI , reckless driving , and driving while unlicensed.
